Anthony Bruno
Company Founder
Anthony Bruno founded Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in 2002, opening the first restaurant on Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
Bruno came from a traditional Italian family, growing up surrounded by relatives and the restaurant business. His focus on food started at a
very young age with a father who worked in clubs and restaurants his entire life and had the gift of an extraordinary palate and with a mother who was an excellent cook.
Under their guidance, he was inspired to dream of opening a restaurant of his own someday.
That dream became a reality in 1982 when Bruno and his father opened the doors of Anthony’s Runway 84, a full-service Italian restaurant and lounge near the Fort Lauderdale airport that featured a
broad menu of classic favorites. It soon became a highlight of the South Florida restaurant scene, attracting a loyal following of regular customers, celebrities and tourists.
While other restaurants have come and gone, Anthony’s Runway 84 still remains a key player in the local restaurant industry.
Then, in 2002, Bruno initiated a new venture just a few miles away from Runway 84. His goal when he opened Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza was to bring a top-quality pizza to South Florida -
one like he remembered from Brooklyn. The foundation for this new concept was the 800 degree coal-burning oven that cooks pizza in four minutes.
Unlike the broad menu at Anthony’s Runway 84, he chose to stick with simplicity at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. Menu options include pizza,
coal-oven-roasted chicken wings, Italian salad and New York style cheesecake.
The success of Bruno’s first location prompted him to expand and build restaurants throughout South Florida.
